Mauritius

First Long haul flight for a year

I had been very busy building my business and had not had a chance of a break since my visit to Singapore in April 2005 so I relished the chance to visit Mauritius to catch up with a friend from Hong Kong who was there on business.

Although my stay was brief I packed in as many activities as I could whilst maintaining an element of calm and relaxation.

Mauritius is a 12 hour flight from the UK and people generally stay a week or two but I only had 5 days so I made the most of them. By April Mauritius starts coming into its winter but with a consistant 25-30 degree temperature anyone from the UK would find that hard to believe. The Indian Ocean is warm, clear and inviting and teaming with beautiful marine life.

The Indian Ocean island of Mauritius is a perfect place to find sun, sea and sand. But it has much more to offer, too, including diving, fishing, sightseeing, shopping and lots of exploring.

I took a speed boat tour of the surrounding coastline which was both informative and stunning. I could not beleive how large and sprawling the resort is.

Room with a View

Given a choice I like to have a chance to see how the locals live. I do this by either visiting them or staying in low budget accomodation but in this particular instance I was staying in one of the most beautiful hotels in the world. Le Touessrok.

I had a large airconditioned suite with a fabulous ensuite and walk in wardrobe. My room was right on the beach, just a terrace away from the sand.

Perfect Sunday Lunch

I knew as soon as I arrived at my hotel that there would be many things that i would miss about Mauritius. The weather, the beaches, the people, but I have to say since returning I have not experienced a Sunday lunch like it.

Roasted lamb on a spit, champagne, fresh salads and pasta salads on a bed of ice. Attentive but not over attentive service. I was comforable to eat alone and listen to the waves lapping the shore .

The only thing that made me feel sick was that I would have to leave the following day.
