Asia has always fascinated me, partly because of my racial connection to it, and partly because of the rich mixture of culture, religion, and history, which dwells within its huge borders.
My first trip back to Asia was to Thailand. I really did not know what to expect. I found it to be a strange mix of contrasts. To be honest, I really did not take to the hustle and bustle of Bangkok's busy streets and preferred instead the serene solitude of the islands, which nestle along its coast.
I had a couple of days in Bangkok, which gave me a chance to have a look around. I stayed in a great hotel, The Oriental. The Oriental chain is world renown for its excellence for the business and personal traveller.
Once out of the hotel I really got to see the place.
Bangkok is a hot and bustling city, a melting pot of Asian activity. I must have looked like an elongated local. Everyone I encountered was friendly and polite.
Perhaps the biggest attraction to Thailand is the people, which earned it the name, "The Land of Smiles.”
