Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, is dominated by a mighty castle perched high on a craggy ridge. This drammatic backdrop was formed by an ancient extinct volcano and the centuries of human history which followed. Edinburgh is a World Heritage City and hosts the world's largest arts festival. The city centre is divided into two parts, each with its own distinct feel; the medieval and the georgian. The city is steeped in history and culture and hosts science festivals, film festivals and folk festivals as well as perhaps the biggest street party in the World at New Year. |
