James Bond was here twice Hi you all with "Arctic Virus", I visit Iceland 3-4 times a year as a guide for special tours and expeditions there, usually using 4x4 so we can visit the off beaten track Iceland. This is the best way after hiking to get exposed to the amazing landscapes and light of this island. I wanted to give you my top 10 places to visit in Iceland. The photo is from the glacier lagoon called Jokullsarlon in south eat part of Iceland. They filmed here 2 scenes from James Bond movies and the first Tombrider film with Angelina Julie.
8. Vatnsnes Peninsula - North iceland During summer this place becomes a great place for watching seals colonies. The biggest one is just close to Osar youth hostel. You will see there about 200 seals and their puppies training in swimming and jumping for the coming winter. 300 m north of it you will find great rock formation called Hvitserkur just off shore.
9. Langjokull - west Iceland. 4x4. The way up to the Langjokull snow mobiles tours station is more like driving in Tibet than in Iceland. Bizzare brown and dry land scapes and wide rivers. In my opinion this is the best snow mobile tour on a glacier in Iceland. Not touristic and the stuff is very friendly. Take a 1-2 hours guided tour on a snow mobile. If the weather is good you will see great views. Don't tour the glacier your self!!!
10. The walk from Arnarstapi to Hellnar - Snaefellsnes, west Iceland. About 2.5 KM walk along cliffs crowded with sea birds and where you will find great rock formations carved by the sea waves. In a good day you will have good view of the Snaefelljokull volcano which inspired Jules Verne in his book "Journey to the Centre of Earth". The area is full with legends and mystic. In Hellnar you can sit in the small cafe watching the harbour and have hot choclate drink with apple pie and cream. |
