Welcome to my new (unfinished) Dusseldorf Page

by sharonn - last update: Sep 9, 2002

Observations since living in Germany:

(1) If you ask a German "do you speak English?" you can guarantee that you always receive the same response "a little bit" then they go on and some of them sound as if they belonged at Oxford..

(2) German people never let you attempt to try out your German. I have found the usual response is either a blank stare or they speak back to you in English...

(3) Whenever you ask for directions and pronounce a place they give you a blank stare and then repeat the word as it should be pronounced in German...

(4) They serve sausage in bread (a big massive sausage and tiny bit of bread).

(5) Even worse they serve curried sausage in bread (even worse it tastes great!) :)

(6) I have been described as a "typical Islander" because I do not like fizzy water!

(7) German people are very patient no pushing and shoving here!! (Did you get that bit Londoners I said no shoving:and I have it on good authority that this goes for the Dutch as well!):)

(8) I have been to view rental unfurnished apartments where there is not so much as a fitted kitchen sink, it is quite often possible to buy these items from the previous tenant! (I found this quite bizarre!)....

(9) I now know a Rathaus is a Town Hall and not were the Pied Piper played:)

(10) Even being unable to speak German does not get you away from the Hare Kristnas.

These little observations are endearing the German people are a very nice race. This is not meant to be offensive but if you find it offensive feel free to spew about it on your own:)!!!
Hi to all, I have found it hard to get some web based English Language information on Dusseldorf but here is some good links I have found or been sent...

This site is the official Dusseldorf site and is in English and is pretty reasonable.

(One page introduction about general information regarding Dusseldorf - good link for kids really - my philosophy you are never to young to learn about travel and never too young to begin travelling:))

This link is a General DD Guide (some of it is a little out of date but interesting stats)
