  • Sri Lankan Myths, Miracles & Mysteries
'The island of Sri Lanka has been a favourite haunt of aliens, extra terrestrials, gods, devas, angels, sky dwellers, demons, deities whichever way you describe them. Our chronicles, traditions, folklore, prehistoric cave drawings, archaeological evidence and ancient travellers' records testify that there have been strange beings living in this island from time immemorial.' There were and there are Mountains, Hills, buildings and even plantes with full of mysteries, power and wisdom which are beyond human understanding. 200 million years ago, geologically Sri Lanka was linked with India, Madagascar, Australia and Antarctica, in a land mass known as Gondwana. Sri Lanka separated into a land mass known as Lanka Dvipa (Island of Lanka), and part of the land submerged into the sea. According to the Ramayana epic this took place because of the misdeeds of Ravana, but this seismic happening is confirmed by modern science.

  • Tip Rating:
  • The Sinharaja Forest, the only evergreen rain forest in Sri Lanka which belongs to few remaining virgin forests in the world, is home to hundreds of indigenous flora and many kinds of birds, beasts and reptiles.

The Sinhajara forest, 11,187 hectares in all was declared a Man and Biosphere Reserve (MBR) in 1978 and it became a National Heritage Wilderness Area under the National Heritage Wilderness Area Act in 1988. This virgin forest was named World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1989.

Off The Beaten Path: City of gems sparkle
    ......
  • Tip Rating:
  • City of gems sparkle
... remains to this day the convergence of Sri Lanka's mineral wealth .

Ratnapura sparkles. Sri Lanka's treasure chest. Cat's Eyes with their asbestos filaments that give that sharp, narrow ray upon the pure olive tint. Topaz of pale yellow, a blend of red and yellow, transparent with a reddish sheen, deep red, dark blue and even cold blue-white; blood stones, crystals and what is more, rose quartz.

WARNING: When you buy a Gem in Sri-lanka , make sure they give you a certificate of authenticity from the SRI-LANKA GEM CORPORATION.
