HISTORIC | wreathe of live plants and fruits |
Some of the colonists moved from Jamestown to Williamsburg in 1699. The Revolutionary War scare forced Governor Dunsmore to flee for safety elsewhere. Williamsburg remained the capital until 1780 when the capital was moved to Richmond. This is now a 300 acre living history museum thanks to the restoration by John D Rockefeller Jr starting in 1926.
Christmas is a very special time to visit Williamsburg. Celebrations for the holiday start the beginning of December and continue into the second week of January. Christmas Day is an especially active day in town. Programs are scheduled with singing of carols, parades, special foods served in the Taverns, and as always the tours of colonial buildings. At night the town is aglow with lights in all windows and the sound of Christmas music from everywhere. Rreservations for programs, Christmas Dinner at a Tavern, carriage rides and church service Christmas morning should be made no later than November. For reservations call 1-800-history. The Internet location is www.history.org Ticket prices are $39 for one day and $49 for a year. |
| | HISTORICAL VILLAGE Williamsburg village contains colonial restored homes that are furnished in English and American antiques from the 17th and 18th century.. Christmas Eve a horse and wagon brings a live Christmas tree to one of the hotels for guests and children to decorate. It is a voluntary event and hot chocolate and cookies are served while guests sing carols . |
FLOWERS IN DECEMBER There were flowers everywhere even at Christmas. It was hard to believe they would still be alive when I only live 250 miles directly north and our flowers had been gone for months. | | |
