Drive to Astoria

Columbia River
The Columbia River flows into the Pacific Ocean at Astoria. The drive along the river can be very scenic with ships and barges using it for transportation. Washington State is just across the river. The town has several Victorian homes and bed and breakfasts but we didn't get the chance to stay there other than to visit the pier.
4 mile bridge

The bridge to Washington State

Pleasure boats docked on the river which empties into the ocean just beyond the bridge. The water contains salt and is inhabited by ocean fish and seals.
Life of leisure

Crowded Docks

The seals can be found sunning themselves on the docks where they can find enough space. They seem to always be arguing over who belongs where when here.

Pros:"Victorian town on the hill"

Seals? Haha, must be pure water there, right? I see that even rivers are huge in the USA (well, oops... some people/locals as well, right? :-).

I'm amazed at the seals on the docks...so close to humanity.
