Tokyo is really an amazing city. It has all the high technology you might suspect, and still, a lot of cozy charm if you get behind the main streets. Besides, the Imperial Palace, the Meiji jingu, Asakusa and more provide great contrasts to the hectic city pulse!
Wide-spread is an understatement when it comes to Tokyo. The area has grown so much that it has virtually joined and engulfed the surrounding communities...!
Ten years ago I lived a 40 minute trainride from the centre, in the Chiba-ken, and on my free days I always went in to Tokyo. In the beginning, before my Japanese was any good, I strolled around the train stations, always keeping the station within sight, so as not to get lost. As my language skills improved, so did my courage, and I dared to venture further into the city.
In 2004 I came back to Japan for a month-long visit as a tourist. We spent a number of great days in Tokyo this time too, and sooner or later I will tell more about it!! Up until now I have concentrated on my main Japan page, since most of my knowledge of Japan has to do with - the country. Having lived within its embrace, I think my biggest contribution is my knowlegde of the culture of Japan, both meaning culture as in art and culture as in the-way-we-behave. And I am no expert on Tokyo. I went here frequently, but that was way back, twelwe years ago. My impressions are still vivid, but maybe not so up to date...
and in 2004 we spent a number of days in Tokyo, but really - What are a couple of days in a MEGACITY? They are close to nothing...Who am I to tell you what you "must see" in Tokyo? I leave that to the natives who have something to compare with. All I can tell you is the little I know of Tokyo, what I thought of it and what I learned about it.
I will return and start building more some time...
Ja ne!
- Pros:It has it all, and it is all in Japanese...!
- Cons:Hard to find your way around unless you can read Kanji
- In a nutshell:Crazy-cute-wild-peaceful-crowded-polite-safe-sugoi!!

Hi, great pages. Hälsning Eva
Tokyo has always held a mystique for me -- it's so huge and so foreign to where I live. I enjoyed reading your impressions -- maybe someday I'll be able to visit.
Hi there:) I envy you could visit Japan as it is my biggest dream. Nice photos and infos. Greetings from Warsaw!
Interesting and informative page of Tokyo ! Wow, that you have lived in this area !
You're very lucky to have lived here for a year! I visited last in late October on business, so I didn't get to see much, but I did get to enjoy the food once again! Cheers, and happy holidays!
Very nice and informative page!
These pedestrian intersections are amazing - 2 armies of people coming at each other from the opposite sides of the street - and no one bumps into anyone.
Areflowers in Ueno picture Sakura flowers?
Fantastic page on Tokyo Malin!! I wonder if I will ever get to visit there...
Good tips & good page, oooh, I miss the Shibuya area.. ☺
