Budapest. I think of it as Paris' little sister (no hard feelings, hungarian friends...).
Why Paris' little sister? Well, so much of the city structure and architecture reminds me of Paris in Budapest. The avenues and boulevards, the houses styles etc. And of course the magnificent river, no - not Seine, the Danube, that separates Budapest into Buda and Pest, like Seine divides Paris into the left and the right side.
Buda is the more hilly part of town with Pest supposedly more commercially oriented, more straight lines and more business. Buda is lush and has great historic attractions. In between the Margit island with a huge green park and a bath which - according to my expert friend - is a better alternativ to the famous Gellért bath, with a rep for being crowded and unhygienic...

Gr8 Budapest pages. I used to know one of the owners of Strawberry Hostels before he became a broker then spent a year doing a RTW trip.Your also dead right about BKV ticket controlers.....they target foreigners and not very polite either.Tim
Ah, the delightful Gellert Baths! My wife and I stayed in the hotel many years ago and the residents lift down to the spa was guarded by a formidable white coated matron who looked like Leonid Brezhnev in drag...at least I don't THINK it was him!
