Getting TO/AROUND: At least if you are going around town.

The Stockholm Metro is "left-sided", which means that if you stand on the platform facing the tracks you can expect the train to come in from your left side going towards your right.
In most cities it is the opposite way, or so I have heard.

Prices vary with how far you go, inner city rides cost about 2 US dollars.

The Stockholm subway is also an ongoing art exhibition. Out of 100 stations, around 80 continously have art on exhibit.

Flying: Arlanda or Skavsta - the airports at hand

Getting TO/AROUND: Coming to Stockholm? Coming by plane? Here is how to get into the city:

The two airports close to Stockholm are Arlanda and Skavsta. Arlanda is just north-west of Stockholm, som 40 kilomotres, and this is of course the biggest airport in Sweden, with both domestic and international departures and arrivals. Arlanda looks like a construction site, and is constantly the subject of alterations or extensions. It is a quite manageable airport though, you will find your way around.
To get into Stockholm from Arlanda there are basically three choices: taxi, train or bus. Bus will be the cheapest, about 7 US$, train costs a bit more, but is faster; 20 minutes compared to 40 minutes by bus.
The buses depart from just outside the entrance gates. Trains are accessed below ground level, you can follow the signs or ask your way. Taxis run from just outside the entrance. Buses and trains to Stockholm are really frequent.

Skavsta is located south of Stockholm and the bus ride here takes some 80 minutes. Buses depart from the airport to Stockholm and vice versa quite often and the fare is about 20US$.

Getting TO/AROUND: Boat ride under the bridges   by Maline

    Description:
Being a city of islands, of course Stockholm also should be seen from the water.
Tourist boats depart several times a day from Strömkajen down town.
Last summer we went on the trip called "Under the bridges of Stockholm", a two hour boat trip with guiding in headphones.

The tour takes you into lake Mälaren, and through two locks, one of them is Slussen.

You get to see several islands and sights and the guiding was in various languages including english, french, german, italian and japanese.

Cost: Around 160 SEK per person.
    Time: Approx 2 hours
Directions:Departure from Strömkajen. Check your map, it is close to Kungsträdgården.

Getting TO/AROUND: The price system is a bit complicated. Stockholm in divided into zones. If you cross from one to another, you have to use three coupons. Within one zopne it costs two coupons. 20 coupons like that on the pic costs 145 SEK (may 2005).
