Gamla Stan, the old town, is definitely a must-see thing in Stockholm. At the same time, it is also a tourist trap. Why? Mainly because of all the commerce here. All the shops that sell crap, frankly, overprized and in most cases made in another country although claiming to be swedish souvenirs. Like so many other special places where tourists flock, this commerce is a disturbing part of Gamla Stan. Also, in the summer be prepared for a crowd, because here are many people! If you dare to get off the street called "?sterl?nggatan" and wander around the island on smaller roads, you will avoid the worst mobs. Good luck!

Alternative: Apart from the main tourist street, take the smaller streets that cross the island upon which Gamla Stan is situated. There are coffee shops, antiques stores and nice buildings to see everywhere on the little island.
