I just returned from a five week travel in India and Nepal when a Dutch magazine gave its readers the opportunity to join a trekking to the Mount Everest.
Reason why they origanized this was their sponsoring of an attempt to reach the top of this mountain by a Dutch mountaineering team. One member of this team is a freelance journalist of this magazine.
Because I wanted to do a trekking sometime this was an excellent chance to make one. So I applied for this trip which took place in April and May 2000.
During this three week trip I made a trekking of eight days to the Mount Everest. Not to the top of course but I wanted to try to reach the 6.400 meters. I didn't make it this far but I reached the 5.600 meters. I think I can be content about this because I never was that high before.
I surely recommend a trekking in the Himalaya because it is so beautiful there. Walking (climbing) on a mountain and watching the snowy tops of other mountains. Very, very impressive. This trekking took place in Tibet but because this country is not seperately mentioned on the VT map of China I choose Lhasa as place where I have been. Actually I haven't been there because the trekking was in another part of Tibet.
If you are curious about some pictures of this fascinating country you can go to my travelogue 'what you can see when you travel in Tibet'.
I also made a travelogue with pictures about the Himalaya trekking.
