  • Fondest Memory: On the way from the one place to the other you look around and enjoy the scenery and in small villages the interesting people.

In the middle of nowhere some people are working. Of course you are curious, what are they doing. Well, there is only one solution: have a look. standing close to them it is clear, they are 'pumping' water. A cow, attached to a mechanism, is walking in circles and with jars the water is pumped up from the well. This water is used for the irrigation of the land.

Very teachable to see how these farmers are doing their job. With very simple instruments they get what they want.

General Tips: A palace in a dirty lake

  • Favorite Thing: In a dirty lake a little north of Jaipur you can see the Jal Mahal, also called the Water Palace. From a distance the palace looks nice. How the palace will look like when you are closer to it, which can be difficult because the palace is in the middle of the lake (I think it can only be reached by a little boat), I don't know.

  • Favorite Thing: In India there are many places where women do their laundry. These places are in the open air and are not only used for washing the clothes. People also wash themselves here.

    General Tips: Havalis of Rajasthan

  • Favorite Thing: In many cities of Rajasthan are beautiful havelis. Havelis are former houses of merchants but these days people live here or three are even schools in these buildings.

In some of the havelis beautiful murals can be seen. Colors of these murals are very bright and clear and every picture tells a story. Of course there are also some less beautiful havelis.

The haveli on the picture is in Nawalgarh.

    General Tips: Drying the laundry

  • Fondest Memory: Walking along the bank of the Ganga river you see the laundry drying on the steps of the ghats. Of course you avoid walking on this laundry.

The cows, holy as they are, are not trying to walk along this laundry. They just walk over it so their dirty footsteps are printed on the clean sheets and clothes. Nobody minds this it seems because they let them do it.

Hey Kees, very good tips and photos. But pretty less in number compared to how vast the country is. During your next vist, definitely visit, Mumbai, Goa and may be the South
