I saw many pictures and documentary's of India. I saw the movie Ghandi. In travel magazines I read articles about this amazing country.
Because of this I got the feeling more and more to visit India. I wanted to see the things with my own eyes. I wanted to taste the mystic of the country. So early 1999 I decided to go to India during the millennium. Not to celebrate this here but to escape this madness in the Netherlands and also because this time of year is one of the best times to travel in India: not too hot, not too wet.
I have been traveling in the north of India and visited places like Delhi, Varanasi, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Agra, and Khajuraho. In the Thar desert I made a camel safari (ouch, my bottom).
I have seen many highlights of India, I have seen how people live here, I ignored the beggars on the street (how sad it is, you have to) and I visited local people. Though I realise I don't know India at all (maybe you'll never learn to know this country unless you're going to live there or travel a very long time here).
But there is one thing I do know. I love the country and I am convinced I am coming back here one day. Then I want to see more of India and maybe I will travel around for some months. |
