Morgantown is a small(ish) college town in North Central WV. It is 1 1/2 hours south of Pittsburgh on interstate I-79.

Being a college town, there are a number of things to do, mostly at night.

Morgantown has a thriving underground muisc scene. Live shows can be found just about every night of the week. 123 Pleasant Street (www.123pleasantstreet.com) is probably the most popular. Previous incarnations of this establishment (The Underground Railroad, Nyabinghi Dance Hall) have played host to the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers among other groups. Most recently Fugazi, the Wailers, Junior Brown, and Hank Williams III and others have played there.

But the local music scene is the reason to catch a live show: http://scene.slackworks.com is a great resource for finding out about Morgantown's music.

Morgantown, located on the Monogahela River, also has a wonderful public fitness trail - the Caperton Rail Trail.

** The rail trail also runs past Morgantown's "Wharf District" which is in the midst of extensive gentrification. A seven story office building (belonging to or run by West Virginia University is nearly completed and a 17 story Radisson Hotel will be constructed right next to it. This will be a huge boon to the area...not to mention that a 17 story building will be (by far) the tallest building in town.

Some attractions in the Wharf District (so far) La Casa - Mexican Restaurant - (has been there for 6 years now-but very successful), Whitetail (Bikes) Cafe and recently opened Oliverio's - SUPERB Italian food.**

Recently the historic Warner Theater reopened downtown, a much needed addition for film lovers in town who had been suffering the boring Carmike Cinemas selection of films for the past few years. It is also a wonderful example of Art Deco arcitecture and design.
