Enjoy a famous Milwaukee Fish Fry at a wide variety of restaurants or taverns.
Favorite Dish: It's one of Milwaukee's most cherished institutions and one of the charms that make it unique: the Friday Fish Fry. The Friday Fish Fry grew out of the city's Catholic community, which frowns upon eating meat on Fridays, particularly during Lent. Most places in town offer a Friday night fish fry; it's so popular that even KFC restaurants in the Milwaukee area offer fish on Fridays during Lent, something the chain does not do anywhere else. The type of fish used for a fish fry ranges from haddock to walleye to lake perch (my favorite). You can get it beer battered or breaded. Normally a fish fry includes several pieces of fish, potato pancakes or potato salad (sometimes fries) and coleslaw. Most restaurants/taverns include rye bread or salted rye rolls. And nothing goes better with a fish fry than a big frosty mug of beer!

Kopp's for Frozen Custard - A Milwaukee treat! Kopp's has been a Milwaukee tradition since 1950. There are three locations and they are always busy. In addition to the great custard they have HUGE hamburgers and other sandwiches, fries, O-rings, etc. - all good stuff!
Favorite Dish: I am an Ice Cream Fanatic - but Milwaukee Custard is 100 times better - creamier and smoother. This is frozen custard, not like English Custard. Every day there is a different flavor such as Cherry Amaretto Cheesecake or Caffe Mocha Biscotti...once you go, you will be hooked. They even have Macadamia Nut Crunch once a month and advertise it by saying 'This is too expensive for us to make, so don't buy it - we lose money' and they are not kidding - it is chocked full of Macadamia Nuts. You can always get vanilla or chocolate as well. Another favorite is the Extra Thick Hot Fudge Malt - yum!
