Germany's Most International City

The Gateway to the World

"Germany's Most International City" - this is how Hamburg is often called.
During my business trip to Germany in March 1996 I had a chance of making a day trip to Hamburg visiting some of its sites.
They say the first ritual for any visitor of Hamburg is a trip around the harbor, passing the areas of the cargo ships that are docked between the Old Michel and the modern Köhlbrandbrücke.
It was exciting to see that harbor that is called the Gateway to the World.

Old Hanse District

We also visited the Old Hanse District in downtown Hamburg and strolled along its lanes decorated with flags of all countries of the world.
Here's a short Deutsche Welle video of this beautiful city.

Very Impressive Places

Among the most interesting buildings and places in the city we saw the Michaelskirche (the “Michel”) that is a landmark of Hamburg and the City Hall. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the roads and the presence of special bike roads all over the city.
Unfortunately we had no time to visit the splendid theaters, museums or concert-halls of the city. We just had a city tour that was very impressive and I do hope I will see much more during my next trip to that wonderful city, “Germany’s Most International City.

It's a pity when we visit a place and the beautiful structures are in scaffolds...
