"Syc semper tyrannis"

The state flag
The seal and the flag of Virginia represent the armed figure of Virtue trampling underfoot the emblem of oppression. The Latin motto “Sic semper tyrannis” is appropriate: “Thus ever to tyrants”.
In 1861 the tyrant’s name was, of course, Abraham Lincoln for Virginia belonged to the Confederacy and its capital Richmond served as the capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War. This flag has never been changed, though.

Virginia stretches from the Chesapeake Bay in the east to the Allegheny Mountains in the west and occupies the territory of 42,326 sq. miles. They say it offers tourists more historical sites than any other state:

- Richmond, the capital of the Confederacy;
- Williamsburg, the restored colonial town;
- Jamestown,the site of the first settlement;
- Yorktown where the British finally surrendered in 1781;
- Arlington National Cemetery where John F. Kennedy gravesite and the Tomb of the Unknowns are located;
- Mount Vernon, home of George Washington, the first President of the United states;

So there is still a lot to see in Virginia I am sure.

I have only visited my friend Dorothy in Fairfax and I was very happy to be there. I was a guest of her home and I do hope that meeting in Virginia was not the last one. :-)
Thanks to my friend Dorothy from Fairfax I had an opportunity to stroll in the Old Town and we also had lunch at one of the oldest restaurants in America.
I wish I could spend more time in that wonderful quiet city and enjoy its splendid views.
Let's hope life will be generous enough and will present me with another opportunity of seeing my friend and visiting this town.

 I'm glad you enjoyed Gadsby's. Did you enjoy Madeira, as Washington did? Perhaps not... I think that looks like beer at your table... ;)
