I always pass this place when I arrive to my hometown - Rubizhne - to see my parents.
Yuzhnaya means "Southern Station", so you could say it's would sound like "Southern Station" in English.
This is a district of the city of Rubizhne, one of the off-the-beaten path places in my hometown.
Very few locals of Rubizhne pay a visit here, to say nothing of foreigners.
One day, during my stay at my parents', I decided to revisit Yuzhnaya and took a lot of pictures presented here.
Yuzhnaya is known for its Dzerzhinsky Leisure Center called "Palace of Culture" in Russian, Sports Center called "Palace of Sports" here, swimming pool, secondary school #4, "Zaria" factory, Holy Pochayiv church.
There are houses representing different styles and epoches, among them two historical buildings.
Yuzhnaya has always been an inalienable part of Rubizhne.
I am sorry its biggest landmark - the leisure center called Dzerzhinsky Palace of Culture is in decay now.
However, a new park was dedicated here at the end of April 2012.
It's the Children's Park located in Dzerzhinsky Street.
You can watch a short Youtube video about The New Park.
- Pros:very quiet place with old streets, a bar, an old Palace of Culture
- Cons:roads are beyond repair, the old cultural hub is in decay...
- In a nutshell:Southern Station

interesting page about an off the beaten path place!
Thank you for the interesting virtual tour. The Palace of Culture is certainly an impressive building, both inside and out! I was interested to read how the "rules of the road" have changed to give pedestrians priority and wondered if that has caused problems or even accidents? What if the drivers forget?!
An interesting place with palaces, historical buildings and houses of different soviet styles!
Your pages are a novelty on VT as you are widely travelled in the Ukraine. I find the Ukraine fascinating.
Nice new page Victor. The more of your Ukraine pages I read, the more I wnat to visit :) All the best. Brian
What a nice adventure through Yuzhnaya! The chemical technology vocational school bears some resemblance to my high school in Lowell, Mass. As a matter of fact, I believe the architect was Ukrainian β this would explain the similarity!
Always great to visit somewhere that's not on the tourist map. Great idea for the workers. A great overview in your travelogues.
an interesting page and a lot of more great pics in the travelogues, my favorite is the one about the Soviet Masterpiece !
An interesting page Victor with some good photos as usual. It must have been difficult to be a pedestrian in Soviet times. Regards, Clive
Excellent photos in the travelogues. I always look forward to tips about schools on your pages. Hurrah! Like emphasis on different styles of architecture. A great page. (See architectural gems-24 photos?)
