Crooked Horn City

by hunterV - last update: Mar 12, 2009

The Vast Ukrainian City

Downtown

Crooked Horn - this is how Kryvyi Rih is translated into English and this is how the city looks on the map: a long crooked horn of city districts and settlements.

Some tourists are used to its Russian name: Krivoy Rog.
The city was founded in 1919 as a mining center and became the center of Kryvyi Rih iron ore-mining basin, a huge area in the southwest of Dnipropetrovsk region.

My Visits

I used to visit this city when my younger brother worked there.
The city lies on the River Ingulets some 125 km/77.7 miles to the southwest of the regional center and has about 700,000 inhabitants.
The city has its own airport connecting it with some other cities and regional centers of Ukraine.

Useful Info

Some useful telephone numbers in the city (the area code is 0564):
- City info: 29 22 22;
- Cab services: 004, 007, 067;
- Bus terminal: 71 00 55;
- Railway station: 72 61 13;
- Airport: 23 32 60.
Have fun traveling to that city, friends!*

 I know Kryvyy Rih as the city where the college (uchilishe in soviet times) of civil aviation is located. It was (and hope still is) one of the best in its kind. Thanks Victor for sharing!
