This professional holiday is observed on the last Sunday in August in all coalminers’ towns and cities of the former Soviet Union.
On the eve of this holiday the town gets ready for the celebrations. The streets and squares are cleaned and decorated. Even the stadium acquires a festival look. On that day a soccer match is usually held at the town stadium. The local soccer team
Coalminer receives another team from a neighboring town in Perevalsk District.
This marvelous long-awaited day comes. The holiday atmosphere reigns in the town. You can see unusually many people in the streets. All of them seem to be in a good mood. They all go to the central square where a gala meeting is held. Coalminers and their teams are conferred with diplomas for their excellent work. Veterans of labor receive money rewards.
The gala meeting is followed by a gala concert where the students of the music school perform. The musical turns are followed by dances performed by
Avita show ballet that consists of female students of the local secondary school. The coalminers themselves take an active part in the concert and entertain the public with their owns turns.
Then traditional meals are cooked and served in the open at the stadium and barbeque is grilled. All this festival turns into a mass people’s holiday that is sure to last till night.
