It is celebrated at the coalmine’s club in Theater Street.
You can attend a gala concert , a show and go to a dance in the evening.

Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) is observed on May 9 in our country.
There are a lot of war veterans in the towns and its neighboring villages.
They are all invited to a big Victory Day celebration in Zorinsk.
People gather at the Coalminers War Memorial and then they join in a procession to the Common Grave of the Soviet soldiers who fell in the battles for the liberation of Zorinsk in 1943.

This procession takes place every May 9 in Zorinsk.
The town mayor and many town residents join it to honor the memory of the fallen soldiers who liberated the town from the Nazi invaders in 1943.

Russian Winter (Shrovetide) is observed in winter at the town stadium.
It is a big people’s celebration with field soup, pancakes and games.
This pole serves as the Gifts pole during the holiday. It is greased with wax and people have to climb it to get presents hanging on the cross above...

The town's church is called St.George's Cathedral.
It is located in this old building. You can see the church bells at the entrance.
Father Alexey is the cathedral dean. I had the pleasure of meeting him during my short stay there.
A new cathedral is being built on donations: Cathedral of Kazan-root Icon of the Mother of God. But due to lack of means the construction has stopped as of today.
The liturgies are held in the temporary church located in the building of the former music school. The church dean is Father Alexey.
The new church is called St.Nickolas Cathedral.

When I was in Zorinsk for the second time, I attended an Easter Liturgy and the cathedral dean Father Alexey kindly allowed me to take this picture.
You can only see elderly people at the liturgy, maybe because it was a working day.
A new cathedral was built on the eastern outskirts of the town, but at present the construction is closed due to lack of financial means...

This professional holiday is observed on the last Sunday in August in all coalminers’ towns and cities of the former Soviet Union.
On the eve of this holiday the town gets ready for the celebrations. The streets and squares are cleaned and decorated. Even the stadium acquires a festival look. On that day a soccer match is usually held at the town stadium. The local soccer team Coalminer receives another team from a neighboring town in Perevalsk District.
This marvelous long-awaited day comes. The holiday atmosphere reigns in the town. You can see unusually many people in the streets. All of them seem to be in a good mood. They all go to the central square where a gala meeting is held. Coalminers and their teams are conferred with diplomas for their excellent work. Veterans of labor receive money rewards.
The gala meeting is followed by a gala concert where the students of the music school perform. The musical turns are followed by dances performed by Avita show ballet that consists of female students of the local secondary school. The coalminers themselves take an active part in the concert and entertain the public with their owns turns.
Then traditional meals are cooked and served in the open at the stadium and barbeque is grilled. All this festival turns into a mass people’s holiday that is sure to last till night.

Beside young people’s highway café, there is another opportunity they use to make new friends and to relax.
They go to the opposite side of the highway to the village of Bayrachki that is subordinated to the town council.
There is a good club with a disco in this village.
It is always good to meet new people and to have a good time together. They go to the café in that village and then to the dance.
