| | The Nearest to the Ukrainian Border “Welcome to Lublin!” this is the English for the heading of this page.
Lublin, the nearest city to the Ukrainian border, the twin-city of Luhansk since 1996, is located in Lublin Highlands in the east of Poland and occupies the area of about 150 square kilometers.
The city is famous for “Unia Lubelska” – the Union of Poland and Lithuania that was decided here in 1568-1569. You can get to know more about the Polish history by visiting this Castle.
|
Ancient City The city is about 700 years old. It still has some medieval edifices and old towers in the “Old Town” (“Stare Miasto”), among them the two city gates - Krakowska and Grodska – that remained of the former city fortifications, one of the towers dating from 1342. Other attractions in the city are the old citadel – the Castle that is now the City History Museum, the Old Town Hall, the Holy Trinity Tower and others.

City Squares The city has a lot of parks, museums, cathedrals, galleries, theaters and the Catholic University. Krakowskie Przedmiescie is one of the oldest and central streets in the Old Town. I would like to mention some of the city squares worth visiting:
- Liberty Square; - Lithuania Square; - Lokietka Square; - Liberty Square. You will find a great number of bars, cafes, restaurants, coffee shops (“kawiarnie”) and ice shops (“lodziarnie”) in the city.
