Maastricht is not a typical Dutch city. The centre has many old buildings, with small streets, what makes it very cosy.
Its the capital of the region (provincie) Limburg. The provincial government is situated here in an eyecatching building in the river Maas.
The Maastricht University is well known for their "problem aimed" way of education.
Visitors and Maartichtenaren like to have a beer at the "Vrijthof" with several bars. The "Amor-plein" is a little but more cosy alternative.
Every year the Vrijthof is crowded for several days during "Preuvenemint". Preuve means taste, so you can imagine where the festival is about.
"Maastrichtenaren" are sometimes called chauvinistic. They divide the world in Maastichtenaren and "boeren" peasants. But you will feel welcome in this beautiful town.
Its difficult to choose what to do:
a trip with a boat on the river "Maas". You could decide to be more active in a canoe.
The bonnefantenmuseum is inetesting. If you aren't afraid of the dark, visit the caves in the mountain of St Pieter or the casemates.
Or just walk around and see unusual shops in Wijck.
