A blue walled reefer town

Chefchouen is also known as Chefchaouen or even Chaouen. Chefchouen is located between Tetoaun and Fes, nestled on a mountainside in the Rif Mountain Range. The experience of a lifetime can be had when getting to Chefchouen. Paying into a Mercedes taxi will likely cram you into an old, 1980s model with at least 5 or 6 other passengers ranging from young children to elderly woman. Once outside of the city limits of Tetoaun, the scenery begins to unveil quickly as your driver speeds through the narrow road, honking and swerving to miss motorists, cars, and pedestrians. As you begin to climb into the Rif Mountains, the scenery becomes noticabaly greener, and you soon say goodbye to the harsh orange that covers most of the northern portion of Morocco. As you reach the city limits of Chaouen, your Mercedes pulls into an all but abandoned dirt field inhabited by a rusty oil barrel used by the local children who kick old coke bottles into it while playing soccer. As you uncram the petit taxi, you are surrounded with absolute relaxation, men sitting on milk crates outside of a dingy cafe, playing checkers and drinking mint tea, and woman washing clothing on their porches. This is Chefchouen at its best.
