Merzouga is a small 'settlement' out on the edge of the Sahara Desert, pretty near to Morocco's border with Algeria. The place is no more than a auberge (hotel) or shack out in the middle of nowhere, and I mean nowhere. Erfoud and Rissani are the nearest towns, and it's a good 30-45 minute drive through the desert to reach Merzouga from there.
- Pros:An awesome experience to see the Sahara and take a camel trek into it
- Cons:It's hot, plus 45 degrees Celsius with no rain or shade in sight
- In a nutshell:Morocco's less traveled window to the Sahara
