Just next to Frankfurt or better said grown together with Frankfurt, Offenbach is a more quiet place compared to its busy neighbor, hosting two most important institutions of international reputation:
- The Deutsche Wetteramt - the central office of the federal weather bureau of Germany is located here. It is one of the five central spots in the world's meteorological system. The others in the northern hemisphere are Moscow, New Dehli, Tokio and New York. So whenever you look at any official weather statistics of Germany or Europe, it comes from this place.
- The Deutsche Ledermuseum and Shoe Museum - a museum of leatherware and its use by the peoples of the world. The museum collects and exhibits all kinds of goods made of leather throughout the history of mankind. I have heard that from the more recent history it has now hold of the shoes which the present Foreign Minister of Germany Joshka Fischer was wearing when he, as the very first one of the "Green Party" being elected in a official position, was taking the oath as a minister of the federal state of hesse. |
