  • Stadtpark (City Park), Johann Strauss Monument
Relaxing place to stroll in after strenuous sightseeing day, with nice ponds full of ducks, picturesque willowtrees, benches along the neat paths, and flowers around Strauss monument.

  • Belvedere, a baroque style summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, bult in the first quarter of 18th century
Beautiful park, on the territory of the palace you will find several museums: Austrial Baroque Museum, 19-20 century art collection containing works of Shiele, Klimt and other artists.

  • Schoenbrunn Palace! It is my fondest memory of Vienna. Early spring morning, no leaves on the bushes yet, transparent park with singing air, sunshine over the slopes, quietitude, empty paths, squirrels jumping across long trees shadows...
Walk in the park, it is the place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the nature transformed by man into a piece of art, which is a rare thing nowadays, when human race rather tends to ruin the natural beauty than keep it up... Also, make sure you visit the Palace itself. The entrance to the park is free, the Palace ranges from Euro 7 for a short tour to 11 for a full tour.

    Hundertwasser: The Hunderwasser House

  • A curious piece of art, conveying the views of its creator on what an ecological living environment should be. There is one more Hundertwasser house in Vienna, not far from the first one. I also liked the Brauer house, its architecture is not as sophisticated as of the Hundertwasser, but it has beautiful wall paintings on it.

  • Prater Riesenrad, or Giant Ferris Wheel, allowing to see the city of Vienna all at once.
Visit it in sunset hours, and you will have a chance to watch the sunset over Vienna, with its low red-roofed buildings and spires of churches forming a romantic skyline with the vineyard hills in the background.

Directions: Prater, attraction park. You won't miss the Wheel: it is an enourmous landmark visible from far away.

  • Vienna Buildings! Every building is a piece of art. It looks like a museum in the open air.
Walking in central Vienna is an adventure by itself. Street musicians... carriages and horses (never tried one, people say it's a definite tourist trap, I think to watch them is greater fun than to ride)..

  • Kaerntnerstrasse. A central street leading to St.Stephan's Cathedral from the State Opera. Beautiful buildings, souvenir shops, coffee places…
Another major central street is Graben, with street musicians, shops and the Holy Trinity Column, erected to commemorate the end of the Great Plague in 1679.

  • Graben will lead you (if you don't miss the left turn to a short street called Kohlmarkt) to Michaeler Platz, a beautiful square with Michaelerkirche (St.Michael's church), which was once an imperial court parish church. In the photo you see Michaelertor, or Michaeler Gate, leading to Michaeler Platz.

I totally agree Anya! Vienna is absolutely alluring and that production of 'Contes D'Hoffmann' was superb. Can't wait to go back and see both again!
