Residencial Castelo Santa Catarina: Beautiful Castelo Santa Catarina

If you were passing by on the street, it does not look like much, sort of a long driveway and a door at the end (as shown in the last photo)....but to our surprise this was only the entrance from the parking lot. As you go up the stairs you enter a small paradise in the center of this big city, a garden and a castle, even a small church. And for sure the very friendly staff is a big part of the attractiveness of this hotel. They were very helpful not only in the hotel proper, but also in directing us to tourist sites and also good places to eat. The rooms were small, but very clean and we were isolated from the sounds of the city around us by the gardens, a very nice place to stay. We at first thought of taking a room in the castle proper, but the stairs are narrow and no air conditioning (it was hot even in April), so we opted for the newer converted rooms from what may have been servants quarters just outside the castle. The breakfast itself was not a full buffet, but they did offer enough to fill you so you could get your day started before you needed to eat lunch or dinner.
