"Castillo del Almodovar, castle on a hill" Almodóvar del Río by Martin_S.

Castillo del Almodovar was not on our "to do" list, but as usual we were taking small back roads to see the countryside. So when we left Ecija on our way to Cordoba, we took a small highway that took us past the town of Almodovar del Rio...this was our first sighting of the castle...now tell me truthfully wouldn't you do a detour to see this.

As you approach the town the castle looks all that more impressive with the town stretching away on the conical hill below the ramparts. Wonder how much of this town was here during the days when the castle was first built.

This is one of the best views from the Homenaje Tower, can just imagine a soldier looking down on this while on guard duty and saying to himself "That looks like a good place to picnic on my day off !!!" ^O^
