When visiting Acco, the premier place to be is the old city of Acco, one of the oldest settlements in Israel, from 15th century BC of continuous occupation, by Phoneicans, Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians,Ottomans, English, Romans, Crusaders and others.
(The picture shows the old city walls and was contributed by my friend Steve from Education Resources)
The old city of ACCO has been accepted as a UNESCO world heritage site. You can see this sign at the entrance to the old city when you enter from the new city of Acco along the sea promenade.
This is the western sea wall of Acco, here it was smaller and less reinforced because of the reefs that you can see the sea breaking over. At points where the harbor was and ships could approach close to the walls, they were much higher and more massive to prevent entrance or attack from that quarter.
- Pros:Beautiful old and winding streets.
- Cons:Tourist shops too expensive
- In a nutshell:Plan on at least half a day there

Wow, that sunset photo is incredible!
You did a great job of discussing this town and the sites. The old fort walls still look like just yesterday. With all the history and struggles it has gone through, it still prevails.
So much wanted to visit Akko, I will just have to come back to Israel then wont I!nice to see yr page - excellent food tips too - thanks Martin.
Hello! I have tried 3 times to send you an email today but VT is going bonkers from this end grrrrr
Akko looks like a lovely place! I plan to visit both Rosh HaNikra and Akko on the same daytrip when go to Israel.
A friend of mine recently travelled to Akko and told me I must check the place out. From your page I can see that he was right. Akko is truly unique in its beauty. Great photos! I loved the sunflower smilie. Cheers, Biljana
Sunflowers are my favorite! They do smile back at you. Lovely picture.
What a beautiful place. Lovely pics! :-)
looks very picturesque. Sharon, I will have in mind that Uri Buri restaurant, will do some savings till then :-)
Sharon, we did check out Uri Buri, but his prices were almost double the others, too high for our budget.
