Fortunately I had the oportunity to visit my friend in this crazy city. I had a wonderful time there in august 2000 and just came back from a trip July to September 2002
Bogotá is located on an altiplano, the "Sabana de Bogotá" ("2600 metros más cerca de las estrellas!"). It is the political, economic and cultural center of Colombia. It was founded on the 6th of august 1538 by Gonzalo Jimenéz de Quesada. In 1740 Bogotá became the capital of New-Granada and after its independence capital of Great-Colombia! In 1830 it became the capital of what now is the Republic of Colombia. Nowadays Bogotá is a city with permanent expansion. It's considered to have about 8 million inhabitants (about a fifth of Colombia) who came there from all over the country ...it's a real melting pot and represents Colombia as a whole. And people are as friendly as everywhere in Colombia! The people whose origin is Bogotá are called "rolos". For current info about Bogotá you might visit www.bogota.com (in Spanish!)
