Tokyo in Spring

by Adeline_Foo - last update: Sep 15, 2002

Tokyo is a dynamically modern metropolis city that has a population of nearly 12 million people. Exciting, cultured and safe. Although only the official capital since 1868 when the youthful Emperor Meiji moved the court to the castle town of Edo, it had been the administration center of the country since the opening years of the 17th century when Tokugawa leyasu unified the nation, built Edo Castle and established the Tokugawa Shogunate.

Already a city of over a million inhabitants by the mid-18th century, the large, bustling city continued ti thrive, expand and embrace all that was new, unique and exciting. Fires and earthquakes have taken their toll but never deterred Tokyo people from vigorously from the ruins.

Fast-paced, energetic and busy, the city rarely seems to rest! And that is true! You have Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, Ueno, Nihombashi, Shimbashi and the famous Ginza. Each of them has its own special flavor and its enthusiastic adherents.

From traditional Buddhist temples and Shinto Shrines to high-tech and Tokyo Tower, Tokyo is an unforgettable experience to savor and enjoy the year-round

Great information!! For me even as a Japanese, your explanation of our culture is very accurate and less-biased. I am so glad that so many people like traveling around japan.
