The Phi Phi Islands were once voted the third most beautiful island group in the world and in Thailand. Phi Phi Don & Phi Phi Leh are two large rocky islands in the deep waters of the Andaman Sea, about 50 kilometers southwest of Krabi. Phi Phi Don is better known and consists of two amazing limestone mountains connected by a double-sided white sand beach. Phi Phi Leh is a huge monolith south of Phi Phi Don and is uninhabited apart from a few sea gypsy settlements. It is home to the beautiful Maya Bay, where has gained international fame as the location for the movie "The Beach". The Phi Phi Islands are part of the Haad Noppharthara/Koh Phi Phi National Marine Park. Phi Phi Don has become horribly overdeveloped in parts, but its awesome natural beauty is sufficiently strong to allow it to remain one of Thailand's most popular beach destination. Phi Phi Leh is left to the bird's nest collectors and day-trippers are allowed to visit beautiful Maya Bay.
