We stayed 3 days in Ulan Ude. It was a stop on the Trans mongolian. We did not stay in a hotel, but in a home stay. Luckely the adres was in the centre. Our host spoke fluent french. A shmae we did not, but we could cummunicate weel. As I do speak a little russian. Ulan Ude is not big, but not small either. It had a great atmosfhere. We did a lot of walking, anf must say it was quit cold, the coldest they we had dropped to -40.

lake baikal in the winter

One of the nice things of treveling by trai is seeing so much. You ass lake baikal and I can tell you it wonderfull in the winter. We went there in the summer time too, but winter is almost better.

Pros and Cons

Pros:nice town, nice people and a mixrure of culture
Cons:no smoking in restaurants and pubs.
In a nutshell:good place of the almost beaten track

WOW!!! I've never seen so HUGE head of Lenin!!!!! I thought it was long time ago when such monuments existed but I see it's still popular :-)))
