This is the oldest naval shipyard in the US, first opened by Andrew Sprowle in 1767. It's still the heart of Portsmouth's economy. Today, ships are maintained, modified, and overhauled here. This is the major naval support facility on the east coast. Situated on the Elizabeth River, it's only a few miles from the huge Norfolk Naval Base.

Olde Towne Portsmouth

This old colonial town has a long history. Olde Towne Portsmouth preserves much of that history, with its 18th and 19th century homes and churches.

High St

The "main drag" of downtown Portsmouth is High Street. Here are shops, restaurants, museums, and other attractions. Hotels can be found nearby.
