Philly

A two-hour train ride from Washington's Union Station, "Philly" is close enough for me to visit just for the day. That's good for me, because hotel rooms in this city are on the pricey side.

So far, I've only made the trip once. Of course, I HAD to see Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell--two of America's most recognizable icons. Since they and a host of other historic sights and museums lie within a few blocks of the Old City, this is probably the best place to begin any visit.

However, there is so much more to see here, that I'll be returning time and again. Please check this page later for updates.

William Penn

A member of the English upper class, William Penn was an unlikely candidate for a group of religious dissidents. But he eventually joined the Quakers, who were generally regarded as a fringe or cult group.

They left England to establish a new colony in America. Penn was a pacifist, who disapproved of the colonial wars of conquest. Shown here is his prayer for his new city in the New World. He named it Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love.

Great page so far! Philadelphia is historic indeed. You might want to try City Tavern Restaurant next time for historical dining. Too bad these days the Philly nightly news is all about the increasing murder rate & corruption.
