Ohio's River City | Cincinnati, seen from across the Ohio River |
Cincinnati is the largest city in the Ohio Valley. Definitely worth seeing, with many attractions. It has some great museums, a lot of nightlife, and entertainment. And if you want more fun, just cross the bridge to Newport, Kentucky. |
| | Cincinnatus Cincinnati was named for Cincinnatus, a hero from the early history of the Roman republic. After saving Rome from invaders, he was offered the position of dictator of Rome. But he turned it down, preferring instead to return to his farm. There he lived out the remainder of his life quietly.
The city was founded in his honor by Governor Arthur St Clair, in 1790. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati, an order of officers who had served in the American Revolution (and whose first president was George Washington). |
