    • The Bellagio Casino has all kinds of things to see. It has a spectacular fountain show out front--free to anyone. It even has an art gallery, comparable to what many cities have. For a fine view of the fountains, visit the Eiffel Tower at the Paris casino, across the Strip.

    • Here is a casino so big it's easy to get lost in it. Then again, you may not really mind; there's plenty to do anywhere inside. It's a virtual city within a city, complete with shops, restaurants, entertainment, and of course the game floor.

    • Here is an incredible FREE light show in downtown Las Vegas. On Fremont Street are several large, older casinos. This is the "old" part of Las Vegas, where casinos are not as trendy as on the strip. The experienced gamblers say that the odds are generally better down here than they are out on the famous Strip. They have excellent buffets, at a good price, as well. And often they have live entertainment. First time I was there, they had a zydeco (cajun) music festival, with some of the biggest names in that genre.

    So when visiting Las Vegas, don't overlook downtown. You'd be missing out.

    • Lake Mead, formed by Hoover Dam, is a favorite spot for boaters. It's also a great place for landscape photography.

    • Completed in 1935, Hoover Dam (also called Boulder Dam) is a true technological marvel. It was built mainly to control flooding on the Colorado River. Its 17 power generators produce four billion kilowatts per year--enough electricity for Nevada, Arizona, and Southern California. It stands 726 feet high, 1,244 feet wide, and 660 feet thick at the base.

    Security is very tight; all packages must be searched. Be prepared to wait a few minutes.

    Directions: Hoover Dam is located 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas on US Highway 93. From Las Vegas go southeast on Interstate 515 that will turn into US Highway 93. Continue on Highway 93 until you reach the dam.
