Chicago, That Toddlin' Town This is one of America's truly great cities. You can spend a week exploring all that it has to offer. The museums alone could easily occupy you for most of that time.
This city has much of America's most famous and unique architecture. For a comprehensive guide to its great buildings, visit:

| | Lake Michigan The name "Chicago" comes from an Indian word for the reeds that once grew along the shore of Lake Michigan. It's known as the Windy City for the steady breeze that blows in off the lake. Lake Michigan is the primary source of the city's water and much of its trade. It wouldn't be here without the lake. |

| | The Chicago River In a rare feat of civil engineering, the city reversed the flow of the Chicago River. It now flows OUT of Lake Michigan, not into it. The river feeds into a tributary of the Mississippi. Along the banks are some of the city's finest buildings, examples of Chicago's distinctive architecture. |
