This is the top resort town on the northwest coast of Britain. This country is not well known for its beaches (certainly not like the Mediterrranean countries). So its beach towns attract mainly local people, rather than international travelers.
Blackpool's most famous sight is the tower, a replica of the Eiffel Tower. I was there mainly to attend the 2000 Jazz Festival, which was at the Imperial Hotel. Since the hotel was very pricey, I stayed at a small B&B across the street.
But rather than sit around there all the time, I went out and toured the town. The Tower is a must-see. The beaches are nice, and so are some of the parks. The town also has a small zoo.
My only bad experience while visiting Blackpool was that the returning train (to Leeds) was cancelled. So I had to go through a lot of trouble getting booked onto another one. Fortunately, having purchased my ticket in advance, I was entitled to transportation back to my home in Peterborough. They took me all over northern England to get me back; the last leg of the journey (from Nottingham to Peterborough) was by taxicab. I arrived home after midnight, and had to work the next morning. |

RANGERSHUN Wed Sep 30, 2009 13:51 UTC Just back from here Sept 2009 . Had'nt been to the model village since I was a wee boy and was deeply let down by it all . The place is rundown and most of the exhibits look like they are ready to collapse. Shame cos it used to be lovely | mustertal Sun Jan 29, 2006 11:40 UTC You have captured the nice, possitive side of Blackpool,I love it.They are talking now of closing the trams down, that will be a great loss. |
