Canterbury

This is one of Britain's historic religious centers. The Cathedral is one of the grandest in the country (and that's saying something). Canterbury's old medieval quarter is a wonderful place to simply stroll about.

It's a fine place for a day excursion from London, with regular rail service. And on the way, you can take in the lovely Kentish countryside.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Great place to visit
  • Cons:Can get crowded during the tourist season
  • In a nutshell:Another excellent day outing from London

Yes, I had to study Chaucer's Canterbury Tales at school: it was like learning a foreign language, but well worth it. I was in Canterbury just once, when I was a student. I must go back there again!
