Rauma Rauma is situated on the western coast of Finland. It's about 90 kilometres north of the old capital, Turku. Rauma was founded already in 1442 and it's one of the oldest towns in Finland. Old Rauma is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage. Old Rauma is one of the largest wooden towns in the world that still has normal life in it. You can see some photos of Old Rauma here on my pages - as I live here in Rauma, there's always a possibility that I don't see those beautiful spots that tourists do as I'm so used to them all! |
Old Rauma Old Rauma is actually the center of Rauma. There are a lot of small boutiques, studios of artists, the market place and people also live there. That's probably why it's so well kept as some private people own the houses. |
Old Rauma The yellow tower is the one of the historical museum by the market place. The white tower in the background is the one of the Church of the Holy Cross. It was built by the Fransiscan monks in the 1400's, around the same time when the town was founded. |
