Next stop, Japan!

Vancouver Island is a massive island in the province of British Columbia. When I say massive, I mean it takes about 8 hours of highway driving to get from the north end to the south end, and about 5 hours to get between the city of Victoria at the southern tip of the island to the Pacific Rim National Park which is on its west coast.

But what an island!

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Access to old growth temperate rainforests, a rich and diverse First Nations heritage, west coast surfing, mountains, beaches, wildlife, tiny towns, wineries, farms, and a few small but charming cities.
  • Cons:Suburban development encroaching on wilderness, visible clearcutting, the expense of having to take a ferry/flight to get there.
