| | In 2002 I was invited to attend a wedding held at the world famous Harvard University in Massachusetts. The groom was a Harvard Law student and the bride was a University of Massachusetts student. Logically, they decided to hold their wedding in Cambridge, at the Harvard Memorial Church. There was no way you could say no to a wedding at Harvard! This seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I couldn't miss!
I had never been to Boston before. I hadn't even been to the east coast of North America. In addition, I was so much in awe about attending a wedding at Harvard that I booked off work instantly, bought the plane tickets right there and then, and found accommodation at a nearby B&B. It was set.
From Thursday, May 30th until Sunday June 2nd, we spent our days exploring Cambridge and Boston. While we had such a little amount of time, our friend (the groom), made sure we had time to visit with him. We didn't even think we'd see him except on his wedding day, but he took us around to so many nice places, we really couldn't thank him enough. It was really a nice touch to have someone there that we knew, to show us around. |

| | As for my impression of Boston? I loved it. In fact, I'd go as far to say it's my favourite American city now. I had absolutely no expectations. No real idea of what we had in store. The only things I knew about Boston before my arrival was that it was on the east coast of Massachusetts, the famous accent, JFK and the Boston Tea Party. Oh, and I knew about the swan boats. ;) But other than that? I had no idea what was in store... but what a delight it was to discover such an amazing city! The weather cooperated the entire time we were there. At times I felt like I was back in England... it was so unlike the USA I knew on the west coast. The attitude of the people, the accent, the colonial architecture, the impressive universities, the New England atmosphere and the historical importance of it all... it all left lasting good impressions.
Here are those impressions. |

| Pros: | "Incredible history, architecture, culture and people. Excellent public transportation. A pedestrian-friendly city. Proximity to Cambridge and its famous institutions such as Harvard and MIT." | | Cons: | "Traffic jams and illogical road systems, but, if you're not driving, it's a non-issue." | | In A Nutshell: | "Charming New England history with big city culture" |
