Miles and Miles and Miles of Desert

I last went to Arizona a few years ago to a rock show with my father (as in the things you see on the ground in nature. Although you'll see drunken rock stars on the ground too). It was in a dusty, uninhabited area of the desert where people had pushed the wildlife away to indulge in their hobbies and buy nick-nacks to decorate their homes with. To me, it seemed a contradiction to push nature away in order to admire the beauty of her creations, but I suppose it was more about making a profit than it was admiration. People had put up tents and small stands which were protected from the unmerciful sun only by a thin piece of plastic tarp or tanned hide. I remember seeing hundreds of motor homes all arranged in a temporary community that, from the first time I saw it till the last, seemed to exist no longer than a tumbleweed blown by the wind. Almost a ghost town which seemed to vanish once the searching hearts were satisfied and families had grown tired and longing to return home, leaving only litter as a clue to their passing. <BR>
For centuries Native Americans have said that the desert, the harshness of it, the constant concern for the basic needs of life, brings you closer to God, helps you to understand him better...others see a land where $$$ can be made by altering uncounted years of nature through aquaducts facilitating sprouting communities...and sprouting farmland...
