Glebe Restaurants: The BoatHouse on Blackwattle...
  • Tip Rating:

  • The BoatHouse on Blackwattle Bay
at dusk this location is unbeatable. As the sun doens over the city and the sky is tinged with orange and purple, enjoy a glass of champers and some oysters whilen you watch the lights come up on the Anzac Bridge.
An unusual view of Sydney, when night finally falls the effect is dramatic.
Great service and a touch of class and glamour - even Tom Cruise is a regular.
This is a great place for a big night and the service is impeccable.

Favorite Dish: The oysters (if only for the presentation - 11 different types!)
    Blue-eyed cod
    Fish Pie

    Leichaardt Restaurants: Bar Italia
  • Tip Rating:
  • Restaurant Name: Bar Italia

Plastic chairs, lino and simple food. this is no nonsense and no drama. A Little Italy fave, you're just as likely to meet Italian boys from Fairfield as you are to meet the local political elite.
You have to queue to order and then the meal is brought to you. Nothing spectauculr but a great people-watching exercise (watch out for the Italian boys and their souped up cars) and fun all the same.
While in Leichardt check out the Forum at the Parramatta Road end of Norton Street. A slice of Siena in Sydney - complete with gorgeous Italian Aussies in their fineset Versace parading around. Priceless.

    Favorite Dish: Foccacia
    Fussilli with tuna and capers
Coffee - but don't ask for that decaf skim stuff with a twist of lemon. This is REAL coffee.
    Canoli
    Gelato

    BBQ King: BBQ King
  • Tip Rating:
  • Restaurant Name: BBQ King

Open til late, this is THE place for the top chefs of Sydney to dine. That aside it's a good, honest place to eat well and be amused by the surly but efficient waiters.
The owner doesn't move from his spot at the front of the restaurant and directs traffic around him.
Those coming alsone need not worry, groups big and small find themselves dining elbow to elbow with others in shared tables at the front of the shop.
The duck is the signature dish - luscious meat served in a pancake for the first course then the remaining meat is either Sang Choi Bow style or with noodles or with rice - whatever takes your fancy. Artery clogging stuff!

Favorite Dish: Salt and Chilli Squid
    Peking Duck two courses
    Fried Tofu with Chilli Salt
    Steamed Chinese Broccoli

Central Sydney Restaurants: The Spanish Taverna @ the Sir...
  • Tip Rating:

  • The Spanish Taverna @ the Sir John Young Hotel
Not haute cuisine but some of the best Spanish food this side of Madrid. A place best enjoyed with a bunch of mates the restaurant is known for it's paella and tapas platter.
reasonably priced and with real Spanish staff, this place is a fave amongst Sydney's Spanish population who come here on weekends for big family lunches.
Also attacts yuppies, office workers and the local political intelligenstia for sangria and conversation.
Grab a seat outside to watch the world pass by in this area dubbed 'The Spanish Quarter'.
Flamenco music plays in the background and pictures of the home country hang on the walls but there is nothing cheesy about the joint.

    Favorite Dish: For a group:
Paella - great fresh seafood of the day
Grille Seafood Platter - it doesn't come much better than this
    Sangria - by the litre
