Suedfriedhof Südfriedhof Review

Another quiet place is the Suedfriedhof - an old cemetery close to the center only a 15-minute walk from Marienplatz or 2 minutes from Sendlinger Tor. Here you will find Munich's celebreties of the 18th and 19th centuries, e.g. painters (Spitzweg), architects (Klenze) and scientists (Fraunhofer). I crossed the cemetery each time I had to walk downtown for shopping.

Mittenwald Locations in the Alps Review

The small town of Mittenwald is about 1h from Munich, next to Garmisch and the Austrian border. The town center is very small and has some colorful quaint houses.

Why not fly a balloon across Bavaria? Departures are from various towns south of Munich. Only during the winter are long duration flights across the Alps possible (approx. EUR 200,- for the Alps crossing).

One hour south of Munich, near the Austrian border, is <b>Königssee</b> (King's Lake). Like a norwegian fjord the lake stretches over 8 km below the mighty Watzmann (2713 m). You can visit the chapel of St. Bartholomew on its eastbank by boat from Berchtesgaden. The chapel is an ideal starting point for hikes to the mountains.
