In December 2000 the National Zoo in Washington received two new panda bears from China. Mei Xiang (engl.'pretty') and Tian Tian (engl.'sweet') were born at the China Research and Conservation Center for the Giant Panda in Sichuan Province, China.

Admission to the zoo is free. Check my Washington page for more information on the city.
