On the beach of Santa Maria

Like almost every Christmas, I escaped from the cold weather in Europe and went south - this time to Cape Verde in West Africa. The first week we spent in Santa Maria (an appropriate name for a Xmas escape!). This small village on the island of Sal has got beautiful beaches, great fish restaurants, and, of course, wonderful weather all year round. This picture shows some guys interrupting their football match and posing for a picture on Christmas day on Santa Maria beach. The second week, Bettina and I went sailing, visting the islands of Sao Vicente, Santo Antao and Santiago.
